We Are Recruiting: Out of the Margins Research Project

June 11, 2026

Do you have lived experience as a parent living with disability? Are you passionate about community-based research and advancing socio-economic equity for families? We are recruiting for two exciting compensated roles for our Out of the Margins project — and we want to hear from you.

At the Centre for Family Equity, we propose evidence-based public policy solutions to poverty that create real opportunities for families to thrive. Out of the Margins is a community-based research project exploring parental disability and family socio-economic well-being in British Columbia, conducted in partnership between the Centre for Family Equity and Dr. Lea Caragata from the UBC School of Social Work, supported by the Vancouver Foundation.

We are currently recruiting for two roles.

Peer Advisory Circle Members (8 spots)

The Out of the Margins Peer Advisory Circle will inform and advise the study and guide CFE's advocacy work to address socio-economic inequality impacting parents and caregivers living with disabilities. Members will provide input on meaningful community engagement, advise on accessibility, and develop and carry out outreach strategies to recruit study participants across BC. See the full Peer Advisory Circle Member role description here. Apply here!

Peer Research Assistants (4 spots)

Peer Research Assistants with lived experience of disability will shape the implementation of the study from the inside. In the first phase of the study, Peer Research Assistants will support community outreach through snowball sampling and data collection — including conducting interviews and co-facilitating focus groups alongside the research team. See the full Peer Research Assistant role description here. Please submit your application through our online form here.

If you or anyone you know would be a good fit for either of these roles, we welcome you to apply. Please note that you can apply for only one of the Out of the Margins study available roles.
