Danielle Sangwais (she/her)

Danielle Sangwais is Plains Cree and Saulteaux from Zagimē Anishinabek (Treaty 4 territory). She has lived in East Vancouver since the age of four, and carries the spirit name Kisikaw saweyimiko ihkwe (Blessed by Sky, Woman). She has committed to reconnecting with her land, culture, language, and traditions, and grounding her personal and professional work in Indigenous knowledge systems. She brings lived experience of navigating single parenting, disabilities, poverty, immigration, and systemic racism to her work at the CFE.  

Danielle holds an Advanced Diploma in Indigenous Holistic Wellness and Addictions and will receive her Bachelor of Integrated Studies with a focus on Indigenous Peoples’ Knowledge in March 2026, with plans to pursue a master's degree in education in September 2026. 

In her role as Decolonization and Engagement Coordinator, Danielle is deeply involved in community engagement, advocacy, and policy-focused work, supporting Indigenous parent and caregiver engagement across British Columbia through the K–12 Without Racism project, while working closely with the CFE’s Indigenous employees and contributing to CFE’s broader decolonizing and member-engagement efforts. She is committed to advancing Indigenous reconciliation, accessible education, and policies that support family well-being.
