We are recruiting up to 25 parents and caregivers to take on the role of community-based Equitable Child Care Champions in all regions of BC within our Lone Mothers' Economic Inclusion initiative. Equitable Child Care Champions will amplify the need for the completion of our $10-a-Day system with their local MLAs, carry out a variety of tasks for the campaign, and work to emphasize with the government and the public the importance of ensuring that all programs are $10-a-Day maximum for low-income families, as promised in 2018.
The Centre for Family Equity’s $10-a-Day for All advocacy supports the completion of BC’s $10-a-Day childcare system and works to ensure that all child care programs in BC are a maximum of $10-a-Day for low-income parents. CFE’s research on the impact of $10-a-Day child care on lone mothers in BC has shown that affordable, quality childcare contributes to family well-being and job access for the few who were able to access it. Yet our new promised system is at great risk!
Are you up for keeping the fire lit under BC’s commitment to universal, $10-a-Day ‘maximum fee’ child care for your low-income family? Please join us!
To apply to be an Equitable Child Care Champion, you must be:
- Be a parent or caregiver impacted by lack of access to child care in BC.
- Accessing $10-a-Day or another subsidized spot.
- Struggling to access $10-a-Day child care, or a child care space for your child/ren.
- Located anywhere in British Columbia.
If you are a natural go-getter, we need you! If you want to work on bringing your voice forward with strength and self-esteem please do apply – we provide training, practice sessions, and much peer support in a supportive group setting. This is a chance to gain skills and leadership capacity – and it all counts for your resume and beyond!
Please note that these leadership roles are for those who do not yet have paid leadership roles with the CFE. These roles are not available to those who already have Committee or Peer Lead roles with the Lone Mothers' Economic Inclusion project and the K-12 Without Racism Project.
