Today, we released an Open Letter to Premier Eby with the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC regarding $10-a-Day child care in BC Budget 2025.
At a time of global uncertainty, in BC there is consensus; we all want a thriving economy with healthy children and families, built to withstand turbulent times. Yet BC is still missing out on workers we sorely need in our labour force, many of whom are women and lone parents. Too many families remain below the poverty line missing out on employment income solely due to lack of access to affordable child care. The answer lies in BC’s publicly funded $10aDay child care system. In the face of unjust USA tariffs, now is not the time to back down on building a strong, durable child care system to support workers in BC’s economy. While we appreciate that austerity was not the fallback in BC Budget 2025, now is the time to accelerate growth of $10aDay child care to ensure everyone is powering BC’s economy forward.
