(Vancouver, BC: Unceded Coast Salish Territories.) Today, The Vancouver Sun released their online edition of an exclusive feature by Lori Culbert on the Centre for Family Equity's research and report to be released on Monday.
A Whole Life: The Impact of $10-a-Day Child Care on the Health and Socioeconomic Well-being of Low-Income Lone Mothers in BC, a report on research partnered with the Dr. Lea Caragata, School of Social Work, University of British Columbia, will be released on Monday, December 28th. The report shares ten key recommendations for the provincial and federal governments to ensure BC's universal child care system is established as a coherant and fair system that is successfully inclusive of marginalized families and on track with growth.
Our research data uncovered that while $10-a-day child care was extremely beneficial for lone mothers raising children below the poverty line in BC, leading to greater health, family well-being, and economic outcomes, BC's $10-a-day universal child care system is lagging with many marginalized families shut out of the beneficial policy. We express gratitude to all the project peer researchers for their hard work throughout the project and to the four peer researchers who stepped forward to speak to The Vancouver Sun with such clarity, determination, and compassion.
